Confession of Maryjane

She had been carrying it for weeks.

At first she told herself it was just a one-time mistake. Then she told herself it wouldn’t happen again. But it did. And every time the guilt came, it faded faster than the want. One night after lying to her husband about where she was going, she found the ministry inbox. Writing to someone who could not see her face felt safer than telling anyone close.

She opened a blank email and started typing.

Letter 1

Pastor,

I found your ministry online because I needed to confess without anyone knowing who I am. I can’t tell anyone close to me what I’ve been doing. I’m too ashamed. But I can’t keep carrying it by myself.

It started with a man I met through a friend. We only talked for a little while before he came over one afternoon. I ended up on my knees in my living room with his dick in my mouth. Then he bent me over the couch and fucked me hard. I came so fast it scared me. Afterward I felt sick with myself. I told myself it was just one time and I would never do it again.

A few weeks later I met a woman. We started talking and one day she followed me into a bathroom at a store. She pushed me into a stall, pulled my panties to the side, and fingered me until I came on her hand. After that I got on my knees and licked her until she shook. I had never done anything with a woman before, but I couldn’t stop thinking about how wet she was and how she tasted.

I know this is getting out of control. I keep telling myself I’m going to stop, but then something else happens. I feel guilty after, but it doesn’t last. Right now I’m sitting here writing this with my hand between my legs because I can’t stop replaying everything. I know it’s wrong. I want to stop. I want to be better. I just don’t know how.

Please tell me how to fix this. Tell me how to be good again before it gets worse.

Maryjane

She almost didn’t open the reply when it arrived. But she did.

The response was calm and biblical. He told her to flee from sexual immorality and to bring everything to God in honest prayer. He encouraged her to find someone she could trust and be accountable to. It was kind. It was clear. And it did nothing to stop the heat that rose in her when she read the words “resist the devil.”

A few days later, she wrote again.

Letter 2

Pastor,

I tried what you said. I really did. I prayed and told myself I was going to stop, but it only lasted a couple days. Then I went right back to it. It’s like the more I try to fight it, the stronger it gets.

I started seeing the mailman regularly. He comes by a few times a week now. Sometimes I meet him in his truck, sometimes at my place when my husband is gone. I let him fuck me however he wants. I’ve even started looking forward to it.

Then I started with my neighbor. He’s married too. At first it was just flirting over the fence, but one day he came over when his wife was at work and I let him fuck me in my kitchen. Since then we’ve been meeting whenever we can. His wife is starting to get suspicious. She’s been asking questions and watching us when we talk outside. I know I should stop, but I don’t.

I’ve been lying to my husband almost every time I go see them. I tell him I’m running errands or meeting a friend. The lies are getting easier. What scares me is how wet I get when I’m lying to him. And when I read your last reply, instead of feeling convicted, I got turned on. I ended up touching myself while thinking about how wrong it is.

I know this is getting worse. I’m not just slipping anymore. I’m choosing it. I still feel guilty, but the guilt doesn’t stop me. It almost makes it hotter.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Please tell me what to do. I’m scared I’m not going to stop.

Maryjane

The second reply came faster than the first.

This one was firmer. He warned her about continuing in sin, about deception hardening the heart, and about the danger of her soul. He told her plainly that she needed to cut off both relationships completely. The tone was more urgent. Reading it made something twist inside her — not just fear, but a dark, shameful kind of excitement.

She waited a few days before writing back.

Letter 3

Pastor,

I don’t even know why I’m still writing. Your last reply was clear. You told me to cut it off and repent, but I didn’t. I went further instead.

I’ve been meeting the neighbor outside now. A few nights ago he fucked me against the side of his garage while his wife was asleep inside. Another time we did it in his truck parked down the street from my house. I kept telling myself it would be the last time, but I kept going back.

Last weekend was worse. He and his friend got a hotel room. I met them there. They took turns with me for hours. One fucked me while I sucked the other. Then they switched. I let both of them cum inside me. I came so many times I lost count. When I left, I could still feel it leaking out of me on the drive home.

But what stayed with me wasn’t the acts. It was how little I felt afterward. The guilt didn’t hit the way it used to. It didn’t warn me. It didn’t slow me down. It just sat there and made everything feel sharper. The guilt is not a warning anymore. It has become part of the hunger.

I’ve been lying to my husband almost constantly. Every time I go see them I make up some excuse. The lies don’t even bother me anymore.

There is one thing I have not been brave enough to type until now.

I’m not just some woman from another area. I’m a First Lady. I sit in the front row every Sunday. Women come to me asking how to be faithful, how to pray, and how to resist temptation… and I’ve been doing the opposite in secret.

I know I should stop. I know this is destroying me. But I don’t think I can. I don’t even know if I want to anymore.

Maryjane

She didn’t write again after that.

She already knew what he would say if she did. She already knew she wasn’t going to follow his advice. Instead, she kept meeting the neighbor. She kept lying. And every time the shame rose, it only made everything feel more intense.

One Sunday afternoon, First Lady Denise Ellison sat at the kitchen table preparing notes for the women’s ministry meeting. Her husband, Pastor Ellison, walked in holding printed pages.

“Maryjane wrote again,” he said, placing the emails on the table in front of her.

She kept her face neutral as she set her pen down.

“What did she say this time?” she asked.

He slid the printed pages across the table toward her.

“I need your help with this one,” he said. “Not just as my wife — as First Lady. Read it and tell me how you would counsel her.”

Denise looked down at the emails. For a second, the lines on the page refused to stay still. She kept her expression calm as she picked up the first page.

Her husband continued. “She’s gone further. She’s been sleeping with her neighbor. They’ve been meeting outside, and last weekend she met him and his friend at a hotel. She says she’s been lying to her husband the whole time.” He looked at her. “She also finally admitted she’s a First Lady.”

She felt her stomach tighten, but she didn’t let it show.

He asked, “If a woman came to you with this, how would you counsel her?”

Denise looked down at the printed pages again. For a moment, her fingers tightened around the edge of the table before she made herself let go.

“I would tell her she cannot keep calling it weakness if she is choosing it,” she said carefully. “I would tell her that secrecy is feeding it. That she has to bring it into the light before it destroys her marriage, her witness, and everyone connected to her.”

Pastor Ellison nodded, listening closely.

“So you think she should confess to her husband?”

For one second, the truth rose so close she thought she might say it. Then she chose the lie.

“Yes,” she said. “If she wants to be free, she has to tell him.”

He nodded again, then asked the next question.

“Should she cut off all contact with the neighbor immediately?”

She swallowed before answering.

“Yes,” she said. “She needs to end it completely. No more meetings. No more contact.”

He studied her for a moment before asking the last question.

“And should she step down from any church leadership while she works through this?”

This time she didn’t look away. Her mouth felt dry, but she kept her voice even.

“Yes,” she said quietly. “She should step down. At least for now.”

He leaned back in his chair and let out a heavy breath. He looked tired.

“I was hoping it wouldn’t come to that,” he said. “But you’re right. Thank you for being honest with me.”

He was quiet for a moment, then said, “Would you help me word the reply? I want it to be firm, but not cruel.”

Denise looked at the blank space beneath his notes. After a moment, she picked up the pen and wrote:

You cannot be free while you are still hiding.

She stared at her own handwriting.

He gathered the printed emails and left the kitchen.

Denise stayed seated at the table, her pen still in her hand. On the page in front of her, beneath his notes, her own handwriting stared back at her.

You cannot be free while you are still hiding.
